HIPAA & Web-Link
  HOME
Effective April, 2005, the Health Information Protection & Accountability Act (HIPAA) mandates security measures to physically and electronically secure electronic "protected health information" against unauthorized retrieval, to reliably store electronic data, and provide for emergency access to the data.
Web-Link helps your health care institution fulfill these requirements by using secure transmission, encryption of data, and password protection.

Transmission between the Web-Link server and your browser meets the November 1998 HIPAA requirements by using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. This is why the web address is httpS://www.web-link.org - the S indicates that Web-Link maintains an industry standard security certificate for web transmissions.
All patient identifying data stored in Web-Link are encrypted using private key technology. The ONLY way to decrypt the data is for an authorized user to log into your account and request a profile, narrative, on-line entry report or data for download. Here is a sample of how the encrypted data look: "138|146|132|131|125|136|141|156|152|168|133|140|". NO unencrypted personally identifying data of your account users, respondents, or assessed individuals is stored on Web-Link.
Passwords are required to access Web-Link accounts. For added security, the account administrator is required to change the initial password issued by ASEBA first time it is used. The administrator issues passwords for all other users in the account. In this way, even ASEBA cannot log into your account to view any unencrypted information! In case the administrator forgets the password, ASEBA will issue a new one, which again must be changed the first time it is used.
